Wavetable synthesis

When we look at the waveform of an acoustic sound we see a repeating pattern. It is tempting to think that if we just replace the sawtooth and square waveforms of the analog synth that we would then be able to recreate acoustic sounding instruments. In fact it doesn’t work because the changes that occur in an acoustic instrument are far more complex that what we can achieve with single cycle loops. But if you have enough of them and arrange things so that the computer can transit through many of them one after another you can make some very cool sounds.
